A Pastoral Reflection - Entering Holy Week, One Year Plus of Pandemic Living - March 26, 2021

I always look forward to Holy Week. From Palm Sunday to Good Friday. Even as a child I did. So it’s not one of those quirky things that just comes with being a pastor. Sure, it’s a week of solemn and tragic events. But through the course of the week, as I attend to the story of Jesus going to the cross, the story tends my soul.
I sing in my heart those songs that many folks find so mournful and dreary. Perhaps the tunes
are in more minor keys. But the words! Jesus keep me near the cross, there’s a precious
fountain; free to all, a healing stream flows from Calvary’s mountain.

Or how about: My song is love unknown, my Savior’s love to me, love to the loveless shown, that
they might lovely be. That’s it! Let us be healed. Let us be made lovely. That’s the journey I want
to be on.

And this is important too: Beneath the cross of Jesus I long to take my stand, the shadow of a
mighty rock within a weary land. Yes, if I’m going to take a stand, (and oh, there are so many
things for which people need to stand up) let it be under the cross of Jesus. Under that wooden
banner bearing selfless love, meaningful sacrifice, and dauntless testimony to hope.

Oh yes, it’s Holy Week and I’m totally in! You’d be welcome to come along too.

In Christ always, Pr. Beth
